Helping to keep your teeth and gums healthy is a key part of what we do. Dental exams, periodontal treatment, teeth cleaning, oral cancer screenings, fluoride treatment, sealants and digital x-rays are all offered at our office by Dr. Hutto to help keep dental problems at bay.
Dental Exams
When coming in for a routine checkup, your overall oral hygiene and health will be evaluated during a comprehensive examination of your teeth, gums and oral tissues. If gingivitis, tooth damage or tooth decay has arisen since your last visit, Dr. Hutto can find these problems and recommend an appropriate treatment plan for you. Regular dental exams are an important part of preventative oral health care.
Periodontal Treatment
In some cases your examination may reveal gingivitis, which is inflammation of the gums caused by plaque; a film of bacteria that accumulates on the teeth and along the gumline. If this is the case, Dr. Hutto may perform a periodontal cleaning to reverse the effects and stop it from progressing into gum disease.
Ultrasonic Teeth Cleaning
Traditionally, a metal instrument called a scaler is used to scrape at your teeth and below your gumline to remove plaque and tartar otherwise missed by your toothbrush between visits to the dentist. Nowadays, with modern dental technology, there is a better, virtually pain-free way.
Oral Cancer Screenings
Our office is not only committed to your smile, we are also dedicated to your overall wellness. Catching diseases before they have a chance to become aggressive is paramount to our health. Oral diseases are no different in this regard. Â Oral cancer has a high mortality rate and this is usually due to late detection and treatment.
Fluoride Treatment
Fluoride helps prevent tooth decay by guarding your teeth against acids that are caused by plaque bacteria and sugar. It helps by absorbing into the tooth enamel and restocking lost calcium. Fluoride disrupts acid production in the already erupted teeth of adults, as well as children. A fluoride treatment from time to time may be needed to help strengthen the enamel of your teeth.
Sealants
As well as our ability and willingness to fix broken, cracked, cavitied or missing teeth, we pride ourselves on our focus on providing preventative and hygiene related services. Giving your teeth a helping hand to defend themselves is key to your overall oral well being and sealants can be invaluable in this quest given their proficiency in preventing cavities.
Digital X-Rays
During some of your routine dental examinations, x-rays may be required to gain a better view of your teeth’s roots, your jawbone and your oral structure. We use digital radiography to provide perfect images and better diagnostics. Digital radiography is much safer for everyone involved as it requires up to 80% less radiation than traditional film radiography.
