Jason D. Hutto, DDS | Celebrating 23 Years

January marks 23 years of Jason D. Hutto, DDS. Our practice is so proud to have delivered so many years of smiles, laughter and exceptional dental services to our community.

To celebrate, I thought it could be fun to stop and answer just a few interesting questions about my 23-year journey to where we are now. Here are a few Q&As all about Jason D. Hutto, DDS.

Where did you first practice dentistry?

My first office was in the United States Air Force. When I finished dental school, I completed a one-year residency program with the Air Force in Washington DC focusing on advanced training in all the dental specialties. I was then transferred to Tyndall Air Force Base in Panama City, Florida where I practiced for the next two years.

The training and discipline I gained while serving have been invaluable in my last 23 years in civilian, private practice.

Where did you go to dental school?

I graduated from LSU School of Dentistry in New Orleans in 1997. In my opinion, LSU was far superior to other schools, but I could be biased.

In my second year of dental school, we were already seeing patients whereas in many other schools, you would not see patients till your fourth year. This allowed me time to gain extra experience working on and with patients before I graduated.

What has been your most interesting patient encounter?

In our third year of school, we were required to make a set of dentures for a patient. My patient was a tall, older gentlemen who was a perfect patient for dentures. I spent the next few weeks taking impressions, trying on and refining the dentures until we had a nice set of dentures that looked and fit really well. I was rather proud of my first dentures and was anxious to hear how he did with them on his follow-up visit a few weeks later.

When he came in, I asked how’d they do? He said great! I just take them out when I eat. I asked him why in the world would he take them out to eat. He said I can eat anything I want without teeth; my wife made me get these dentures to go to church.

I still laugh when I think of that story.

What’s your most memorable achievement?

Outside of my family and faith, I would say finishing dental school and serving in the military.

What’s been your favorite part of the last 23 years?

Watching my 2 girls grow up into young adults. Watching my practice grow with lots of wonderful patients. Being blessed with each day I’m given.

So here’s to 23 years of smiles with Dr. Jason Hutto!
