Five Tips For Your Teeth

Let’s face it, the holidays can be great fun, but with all those sweet, rich treats, egg nog, hot chocolate, and other beverages, they can be tough on your teeth. Because we are in tune with our bodies more than we are with our teeth, it’s easy to forget that they are taking such a beating.

If our bodies are tired, we may simply decide to skip brushing and flossing before bed. However, we strongly suggest that you don’t skip your oral hygiene during the holidays. Here are a few other tips for taking care of your teeth.

Taking Care of Your Teeth This Holiday

Make wise choices: While there is nothing wrong with enjoying that glass of egg nog, or those delicious Christmas cookies your aunt always makes, make some wise choices, too, by choosing to eat some of those raw crispy veggies. Cucumbers, broccoli, carrots, and cauliflower actually help clean your teeth, and their texture massages your gums which keeps them healthy.

Eat cheese: Eating even a small piece of cheese after your bigger meals can help save your teeth from decay by keeping the natural acids in your mouth in a healthy balance.

Chew sugarless gum: Also, chewing a sugarless gum for ten minutes after eating increases the flow of saliva. This helps to neutralize and wash away harmful acids, bacteria, plaque, and leftover food debris.

Your teeth aren’t tools: Although in the party rush it may seem easier to open that beer bottle, or plastic packaging, with your teeth, don’t! You can chip, crack, fracture, break, or loosen a tooth that way which may require expensive treatment to fix.

Brush and floss: Don’t ditch your oral hygiene routine during the holidays. Make sure to brush for two minutes twice a day, and floss daily.
